The first treatment starts with detail consultation, recording past medical history. You will be asked about your current symptoms, your diet, digestion system, sleeping pattern, emotional state, etc.

Acupuncture needles are much finer than needles for injections and blood tests. Acupuncture needles are inserted a few millimeters below the skin at chosen point along the channels of energy. Sometimes it may go a bit deeper when it aiming for muscle to release stagnation. Single use disposable stainless steel needles are used. The sensation may be either dull or described as tingling or aches, with the intention of stimulating the body`s own healing response and help restore and maintain its natural balance.

Frequency of treatments will depend on the individual`s condition. Generally though, a course of acupuncture may involve weekly visits initially, followed by fortnightly intervals. As you improve, less visits will be required. Alongside acupuncture, the use of Moxabustion(burn the herb Artemisia Vulgaris to give heat sensation) and the application of cups may be included in a treatment.

You will be required to lie or sit on a table for acupuncture treatment or ear acupuncture.
You will be required to change clothes which we provide for treatment.

Acupuncture is a technique of inserting and manipulating fine filiform needles into specific points on the body to relieve pain or for therapeutic purposes. According to Traditional Chinese Medical theory, acupuncture points are situated on meridians along which Qi(the vital energy) flows.

The WHO, the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) of National Institute of Health (NIH), The America Medical Association (AMA) and various government reports have studied and commented on the efficacy of acupuncture. There is general agreement that acupuncture is safe when administered by well-trained practitioners using sterile needles.

Acupuncture's origins are uncertain. The earliest Chinese medical text that first describes acupuncture is the Yellow Emperor`s Classic of Internal Medicine (history of acupuncture) Huangdi Neijing, which was complied around 305-204 B.C.

The touch conscious style of the blind Acupuncturists which permeates the Traditional Japanese practice of meridian therapy and pulse diagnosis goes hand in glove with the massage methods of both Shiatsu and Anma. Shiatsu uses the meridians with pressure applied by thumbs. Anma is more of a rocking, gently percussive style which works on the musculo-skeletal system, while western massage is primarily lymph based.

Traditional Japanese Shiatsu detoxifies the body, increases flexibility, improves blood circulation and reduces blood pressure, so it is excellent for those who just want to feel great. Finger pressure and stretching techniques smooth and nourish the flow of Qi through your body`s meridian system.
Shiatsu is also highly therapeutic – it is the only form of massage based on 3000 years of accumulated medical wisdom. The benefits of regular Shiatsu in managing stress and promoting well-being cannot be underestimated.

At Shibaura acupuncture clinic, Shiatsu can be received either as 30minutes for partial treatment or 60minutes for whole body treatment.

Physical characteristics of the activator device

The activator is a small handheld spring-loaded instrument which delivers a small impulse to the spine. It was found to give off no more than 0.3 J of kinetic energy in a 3-millisecond pulse. The aim is to produce enough force to move the vertebrae but not enough to cause injury.[Some patients do not like having their body aligned by hand some times. Especially, for the new or uninformed, manual manipulation can be a scary experience

Activator method chiropractic technique

The activator method chiropractic technique (AMCT) involves having the patient lie in a prone position and comparing the functional leg lengths. Often one leg will seem to be slightly shorter than the other. The chiropractor then carries out a series of muscle tests such as having the patient move their arms in a certain position in order to activate the muscles attached to specific vertebrae. If the leg lengths change, that is taken as a sign that the problem is located at that vertebra. The chiropractor treats problems found in this way moving progressively along the spine in the direction from the feet towards the head.

Thompson Drop technique

The Thompson Technique utilizes a "Segmental Drop Table" to enhance the motion of the segment or area to be adjusted, most commonly the mid-back, low back and pelvic area. Leg length checks, palpation and other appropriate tests may be used by the Thompson practitioner in determining where to adjust.
The Segmental Drop System takes advantage of the spine's inherent design of the joints in order to move the spinal segment in the direction that will improve the motion of the segment with the one above and below. The majority of spinal adjusting done utilizing the Thompson Technique has the patient lying prone (face down).
The drop mechanism is based on Newton's First Law of Motion, which states: "A body is in equilibrium if no force is acting upon it. If it is at rest, it remains so; if in motion, it persists in motion, unless an opposing force is met."Newton’s First Law is the basis for the low force, high velocity adjustment that is safer for the patient and easier on the doctor.
In addition to spinal adjusting, the Thompson Table is also used for upper cervical (neck) adjusting, allowing for a very comfortable toggle recoil adjustment. The drop mechanism of the table also allows for easier manipulation of most of the joints in the body, as well as the extremities, ribs, TMJ and clavicle adjustments. There is usually no "popping or cracking" with a Thompson Drop Table Adjustment - unless you are hearing the "pop" or "crack" of the table!

Pelvic Adjustment

Chiropractic care & post-partum

Your body has to be able to move properly in order for you to function with good body biomechanics throughout your day. If that isn't happening, your body will compensate and you will experience discomfort, injuries, and fatigue to mention a few. You don't want that to be the case at any time in your life, and especially not when you are a busy new mom. Chiropractic care affects not only the joints of your body and spine, but even more importantly affects your nervous system. Your nervous system controls every single function of your body - that's everything that happens in your body. So that's where we start. It's about structure and function. Once you have a strong and stable foundation the rest can be very easy.

Hands down, this is when I see women have the toughest time physiologically. The many challenges of being a new parent with the significant and dramatic changes that occur right after the birth of a baby, there's no question as to why. Throughout pregnancy, the birth process and early post partum, your body has undergone many stressful events and some type of recovery/rehabilitation to reach your pre-pregnancy state should be sought. Chiropractic adjustments quicken recovery time, assist the body in normalizing overall pelvic and spinal biomechanics and help you overcome the postural issues and discomfort created by taking care of your new baby. Be at your best to take the best care of your baby and really thrive in momhood, not simply survive. We'll show you how with our multidisciplinary approach to support you through this exciting time or to help you recover from a specific condition associated with labor and delivery. We've got your back (and your pelvic floor)
